For this section, I will outline those areas where I have improved in facilitating number talks. First, I showed growth in how I represented my students’ thinking. Throughout the semester, I became increasingly more confident and intentional in representing my students’ thinking on the smart board with drawings, number lines and equations. In this manner, I could make their thinking more accessible as there were multiple modalities with which other students could engage and comprehend it. My other major area of growth was in collecting my students’ answers. Importantly, my efforts to collect and keep track of these answers also helped me to more strategically call on different students to move the number talk along and strive to highlight the central mathematical concepts I wanted my students to learn.
